Theme #15: Lightning Returns

I’ve been wanting to make a theme based around one of my favorite video game heroines of all time ever since the announcement of the third and last game in the FFXIII series, Lightning Returns, and I really wanted to publish parts of my old theme back from February (hence the sidebar), so thus, this theme was born.

This theme is based around Lightning Farron from the Final Fantasy XIII video game series. It includes:

A clean sidebar with a large area for a description and a blog title above the posts.

Every single color, link, and image in this theme can be changed, as well as the fonts (in fact, the color options are so numerous they might be overwhelming for some).

Five optional, custom links (but be forewarned! Keep these links short or don’t use too many of them because any links that extend to the second row will be cut off!).

NEW! The bottom of the posts has been completely re-done and is now clean, organized, and includes ‘like’ and ‘reblog’ buttons!

Multiple options, including the option to show tags at the bottom of each post, to stretch the background so it fits any screen resolution, to show/hide the extra links, the option to use a custom font, and to use Webkit Scrollbar.

I spent my first official day of summer vacation making a new theme, along with revamping quite a few parts of the base code I use for themes. I’m putting on the finishing touches now and it’ll be up soon! c:

The next week is going to be pretty busy for me. My last day of high school (officially) is tomorrow, and my high school graduation is next Tuesday, and I’m going to be travelling around the country for a good portion of the summer.

However, after I graduate, I plan on re-opening the ask box on this blog and *drum roll* making a few new themes! And while I have a few ideas on what themes I should make, I’d like to know what all of you want me to make, seeing as you’re the ones who are actually using the themes.

Here are some ideas I’ve had:

Final Fantasy XIII Saga
Game of Thrones
Iron Man
My Neighbor Totoro
Rise of the Guardians
Spirited Away

Some of those themes will be basic themes that can be customized entirely (ex: The Borrowers) and others will have limited customization with transitional sidebars (ex: Deathly Hollows). I also have plans to update the rest of my themes (I need to make a few tweaks to permalinks as well as other things) and revamping the older themes I’ve taken down.

Let me know which of those ideas you like the best, or give me some ideas of your own below. Thanks for the help, everyone!

You get called out by three different people, three times on different URLs - thewalkingdixon (which you were asked to take themes down before) then you switched to bitchmagnets (where you had your second strike) - and is now thedirtythree or maybe stokedforthislasagna. We are keeping you on the list because you only take down your stolen themes for a brief moment - and then make themes again that happen to involve stolen code. We don’t like to name and shame, but people DO need to keep an eye out for you, especially when you threaten and attack people if they confront you.

We also are 80% sure you are also the anon who harassed us because we wouldn’t put ninpen on the list on YOUR terms because suddenly you then went and did this.

So when we refuse to take your name down from the list of thieves (which I think is warranted because THREE times you’ve been caught) you turn to harassing us on anon and starting a blog to focus your antics on attacking those who called you out.

You make/participate in a blog to call out thieves but there’s only one post - it’s obvious from the sidebar description it’s set out to attack one specific person. The first person who called you out.

And then you say you are getting rape/death/anon hate from ninpen/manatopia? You and your alter-ego “friends” iamtheongreyjoy and minimalismistic are the ones sending in rape and death threats to the theme makers. And there are screencaps sent in as proof: [x] [x] [x] [x]. I have also visited your blog and in one of your latest posts you’ve started to bring in her family members. That’s disrespectful and a new low - not to mention schizophrenia is not a disease, it’s a mental disorder. Try not to be so ignorant.

We believe the fact that you keep trying to change your URL to run away from these accusations and then when confronted by people you post things and then delete them could be used as evidence towards the fact you can’t prove yourself to be the innocent party.

The admins of theme-hunter ARE theme makers and the funny thing is it’s actually a smaller community than you think and we DO talk to one another. It is one thing to steal code and then it is another to threaten people and use the internet to warp the story. Currently, we are more concerned at future possible harassment.

Before you say we’re advocating hate PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN ANY ANON HATE to her. This is merely an FYI post, mainly to make aware of not only a code stealer but cyber bully. Had bitchmagnets (now waltahwhite) taken down her themes, not verbally abused people with rape and death threats, not pretend SHE was the victim, not attacking US because she couldn’t have her way, and just move on - we wouldn’t be posting this. Or addressing this.

We have been informed by the attacked theme makers since the beginning of this year. Again, it was a three-strikes rule that we are now bringing up today.

I am just going to direct people here because this is disturbing IF it’s true.

Made rebloggable because people should be aware of cyber bullies especially if they have been getting away with it for 12 years.

Two things inspired me to make this theme: the first was the people who messaged me over and over asking, “If your URL is zeldathemes, then don’t you have any themes based on Legend of Zelda?” The second was because I wanted to dedicate a theme to my boyfriend, who gave me ~~very large and very heavy~~ replica of the Master Sword when he asked me to prom.

This theme is based off the video game series, Legend of Zelda. It includes:

A sidebar created entirely out of code, a description that has no height limit, and a blog title and subtitle.

Every single color, link, and image in this theme can be changed, as well as the fonts (in fact, the color options are so numerous they might be overwhelming for some).

Seven custom links that you can get rid of if you don’t want them.

Multiple options, including the option to show tags at the bottom of each post, to stretch the background so it fits any screen resolution, to show/hide the extra links, the option to use a custom font, and to use Webkit Scrollbar.

Of course, I know that doesn’t mean that 150,000 people are using my themes right now, but the fact that 150,000 people viewed my themes at some point is astounding. Thank you all so much for everything, you all truly inspire me to continue coding. And speaking of “continuing with coding”…

I’m currently working on a new theme! It might be posted today, it might not, depending on how difficult the coding will be, but it will have lots of customization options and I know you’ll all love it!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "EDITING" AND "REDISTRIBUTING."

After this post containing a list of theme-stealing and theme-redistributing blogs was created by theme-hunter, I happened to notice this very childish version of the post floating around on a few role-playing blogs. Those individuals, along with many others, don’t seem to understand the rule most theme makers have against redistributing themes, so I thought I would explain it.

THEME EDITING

As far as I know, almost all theme makers allow the editing of their themes for personal use. Now, when we say “personal use,” we mean for use on your blog only. As long as you keep the credit intact and use the edited version on your blog only, you can edit the theme to your heart’s content.

THEME REDISTRIBUTING

Theme makers such as myself have rules regarding what you can do with our themes for a reason: it’s our work. We put so much effort into these themes, spending days upon days of free time building them from scratch. The version we create of our theme is the only version we want.

Now I’ll explain what we mean when we say “do not redistribute our themes.” Taking a theme, editing it, and then re-publishing your version (even if you credit the original creator) is called “redistributing,” and most theme makers have a rule against doing so. It doesn’t matter if you edit it until it’s not even recognizable and you give credit anyway, it’s still redistributing and it’s still against the rules.

When I started making themes a year ago, I honestly never thought my followers would make it to five digits. I thought I was going to make a theme or two, they would get a hundred notes or so, and then my entire existence in the theme-making community would wither away to nothing. Making themes was something I did for fun, and this idea of “Tumblr Fame” was just an impossibility.

Thank all of you, all 10,000 of you, for taking that impossibility and making it possible for me.

I honestly do not tend to call people out on stealing because 80% of the time it’s just theme users. But however, when it is a “theme maker” who decides to straight up copy and paste code. That is always a red flag to me. Especially when they have been warned by other theme makers before (if you look you can notice whom she’s stolen from). For someone to say they will stop stealing (formerly thewalkingdixon) and then recreate to pull ideas from other theme makers…. The first rule of theme making club: just don’t steal. Just don’t.

Some anon had brought to my attention that her code looked familiar. While she has not stolen for one of her themes she has stolen for her theme gallery. And while I have seen my LMThemes copied a few times since I have put it up at the beginning of Feb. It is unforgivable to me as a theme maker for another theme maker to call themselves that and then copy someone else’s code. I name my classes in such a way that I can recognize them because most people won’t name them the way I do. And maybe to some it is a small deal because it’s not that much code. the issue shouldn’t be the amount of code, it should be that any was stolen at all.

Today, I revamped the theme on this blog and realized that I hardly ever answer questions publicly anymore, so I closed ZeldaHelp and reopened the main ask box to ZeldaThemes. You can find the ask box and the Frequently Asked Questions links on this blog instead.

I also have a few things on my to-do list for this blog, including creating a new Recommendations page and revamping a few of my older themes (which may or may not include 4, 6, 7, and 11 - the list isn’t final yet). I wanted to get them done today, but obviously the work piled up and now I have multiple days’ worth of coding on my plate. Hopefully you’ll see these changes completed within the next week or so.

"Can you add more columns to this theme?"

NO. I get this question so often and I cannot express how frustrating it is to explain it over and over again, so I’ll just explain here it once and for all.

In order to “add more columns” to a theme, it’s not just a a little bit of coding you have to adjust. You have to learn Masonry, which is a complicated method of coding that allows more columns to fit. It’s difficult for me to understand, so no, I will not add more columns to any of my themes. Also, because it’s complicated enough for me, I can not simply “tell you” how to code it yourself, because I just don’t know.

When I first made Theme 10 (Son, Just Don’t), there were a lot of glitches in the theme that I didn’t notice until I became more experienced with coding. Of course, now that thousands of people are using this theme, I’ve decided to revamp it. You’re welcome. :)

Anyway, these are the things that I fixed in the revamp:

Posts are now up-to-date with my standards.
There was a glitch in the circle that made the description unaligned when you hovered over it. I completely rewrote the code so that everything is completely aligned, and…
You can now add your own images to the description and they’ll actually appear and look normal.
A few font sizes were changed and now look cleaner.
The option to use custom fonts has been added.
Finally, your description will now wrap automatically to fit the circle.

To revamp the theme, you must re-install it; the theme will not update on its own. Your personalized customization (colors, links, etc.) should remain when you re-install the theme. Also, if you are content with the version you have now, I will not force you to re-install.

Theme #13: Deathly Hallows

This theme used to belong to my friend, Turner, but after the recent revamp of his blog, he said it was okay for me to publish it. Follow him! He’s super cool.

Anyway, this theme is based around the Deathly Hallows symbol from the Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling. It includes:

A nifty sidebar that holds a brief description (that wraps text inside the circle automatically - which is really convenient, in case you didn’t know) and four custom links.

Every single color, link, and image in this theme can be changed, as well as the fonts.

Let’s just talk about the sidebar for a second, because the code used for this is almost as good my Pokeball theme, which was also used by Turner. Go figure.

But seriously though, this sidebar.

TUTORIAL: Adding Links to Your Pages

This is a tutorial that I’ve been meaning to make because I get questions related to this topic all the time. Most themes in the Theme Garden “allow pages,” which means you can click on this button:

And a link would show up somewhere on your blog that redirected you to the page you created. However, because allowing pages to do this requires a lot of flexibility in the theme, when you click on that button while using one of my themes, a pop-up will appear that says this:

Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t have pages on your theme. It just means you have to add links to them manually. Find the link at the top of the page window that looks like this:

Go to your Appearance Options, where you edit the colors, images, etc. of your theme. Towards the bottom of the Appearance Options, you’ll see a set of options that all have the word “link” in them. They should look kind of like this (these are the options for my “The Borrowers” theme):

It will differ depending on which theme you’re using. If you don’t have any options that look like this, then re-install the theme and make sure you follow every step in the installation guide.

In those options, you have up to five links you can add to the theme, but for this tutorial, we’re only going to be using the first one. In the section where it says “Link 1 Name,” type in the words you want the link to say when it appears on your blog. In our example, I’m adding a link to my “Frequently Asked Questions” page, so that’s what I’ll put in that section.

In the section where it says, “Link 1 URL,” paste the URL that you found at the top of your page window that said “Page URL.” There are two ways you can write this URL:

It doesn’t really matter which one you pick. This is what it should look like:

Obviously, it will be different depending on what your page is called and which URL you chose, but that should be close. This is what it will show up as on your blog:

Again, different depending on the name you chose and the theme you’re using. But that’s all you have to do! And you can also add links to these Tumblr features:

/ask (leads to your ask box)

/submit (leads to your submit form)

/random (leads to a random post on your blog)

/archive (leads to the archive of your blog)

Which you add links to in the same way you add links to pages. And that’s all you have to do!

TUTORIAL: Adding Tags to the Bottom of Posts

For some reason, I’ve gotten a recent slew of people asking me “how to add the tags for posts at the bottom each post.” Well, it’s possible on (I’m pretty sure) all of my themes. I’ve been asked quite a few times if I could make it possible, which is absurd to some degree because it says that showing tags is an option in the descriptions of all of the themes that allow it, so…anyway.

Make sure you followed the installation guide. If you don’t follow the guide and you don’t refresh the customization page before you make your changes (the last step in the guide) then this won’t work.

Once you’ve refreshed your customization page, then you’ll see this in the Appearance Options:

The other link options might look different depending on what theme you’re using, but the option to “ShowTags” is always written exactly like that. Make sure the box is checked (in the diagram above, you can see that it is unchecked) and your tags will appear in the bottom of your posts.

Theme 12's pagination has been updated.

I’ve gotten many, many questions stating that the pagination on Theme 12 was too low on the sidebar and was (quite often) nonexistent. I never had a problem with it, but I updated the code and moved the pagination up to where the four image links are underneath the sidebar. Of course, updating your code is optional, but this will be the only version of this theme available.
